High-tech horses in World Class Programme

The British Equestrian Federation (BEF) is working with a leading UK equine biomechanics company to provide cutting-edge performance analysis to both horses and riders who are on the World Class Development Programme.

Centaur Biomechanics, in association with Equinalysis are conducting profiling of equines for individual conformation and locomotion using gait analysis. Biomechanical data can be extracted for each horse allowing for a more informed decision making process, particularly useful when looking at any subtle performance and lameness issues. This process also allows for the proactive monitoring of any effects that may result from changes made by veterinary, farriery and/or physiotherapy intervention.

Alongside equine gait analysis, Centaur is providing performance analysis for the rider, working closely with both rider and trainer in targeting specific areas of analysis in order to facilitate the learning and understanding of the rider. Rider analysis allows the rider to bench mark their performance, to which they can refer back to at a later date and note any changes in both their riding and the horse's way of going.

Equine gait analysis and rider analysis are invaluable tools to assist both performance and training, and hopefully will help lead Team GB to a fantastic result for the London Olympics 2012.
